Set Free From Guilt!: Diving Deeper

See Jesus

Many years ago my dad and uncle had to run a farm errand to Moosomin.  They seized the opportunity to pop in and say hi to their sister.

At the end of their visit, my aunt asked if they would mind dropping my cousin off at school.  They agreed.

My young cousin loved her uncles but was less than impressed by their stinky farm truck!!  About a block from the school my cousin said, "This is close enough, you can let me out here, I will walk the rest of the way!"

Our family has laughed many times about the day young Susan denied knowing her uncles!

Have you ever felt the deep shame of denying connection with someone who loves you?

Peter in the Bible understands!  He was one of the closest friends of Jesus and on the night of Jesus' arrest, Peter denied his relationship with Jesus three times!  You can read about this in Matthew 26:69-75.

Listen how Luke records what happened after Peter's third and final denial.

"The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly." Luke 22:61-62

Ugh.  The bitter weeping of the guilty conscience.

What was the Lord's response to Peter?  The Cross.

The Lord responded to Peter's denial by enduring the Cross.

Jesus demonstrated His love towards Peter in this way, that while Peter was yet a sinner, Christ Jesus died for him.

What are the bitter weepings of your guilty conscience?

Be sure of this, Beloved, Jesus has demonstrated His love towards you in this way, that while you were yet a sinner, Christ Jesus died for you.

The Bible assures you that now that you believe and are a Child of God, Jesus will continue to save you through His life in you!!

Dear One, God is not mad at you.  He has removed your sin as far as the east is from the west. When you believe in the Lord Jesus, by faith, your sin is put fully under the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is forgiven. It is forgotten.

Jesus' Blood cleanses you from the penalty of sin AND Jesus' Blood cleanses you from a guilty conscience!

Beloved, no longer suffer with a guilty conscience. Rather, receive a conscience that is sure of it's righteousness by faith in Jesus Christl

"let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let  us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful."
Hebrews 10:22-23

Say this with me:  "I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus".

Pause for a moment and let Holy Spirit bear testimony to you about this glorious gospel truth.

Know Jesus

This week, you can dive deeper into the message through one or all of the following:

Discovery Bible Study

TO BEGIN

Pray and ask Holy Spirit to teach you about God from His word.

Next, read the verse a couple of times.

Now, ask these questions:

  1. What does this tell me about God/Jesus?

  2. What does this tell me about people?

  3. How can I respond to what I just read?

When you’re done asking these questions, it’s a great idea to pray and thank God for teaching you more about who He is and who you are!

Discovery Bible Study (DBS) is a way for anyone, anywhere to read God's word! You can dive deeper into this week's message by doing a DBS one any one or all of these scriptures. DBS is a great tool to use for your own devotions, as a bible study with friends, or as an evangelism tool!

Prayer Prompts

Lord Jesus, thank you for not only forgiving my sins but also for cleansing my guilty conscience.  I receive the work of Your Blood to cleanse me from the guilt I feel. I pray that you will help me to understand that I am no longer guilty before God, but forgiven and even more, righteous with Jesus' righteousness.  Help me not to hide from You but to draw near to You. Amen.
