Jesus Says He Will Return: Diving Deeper

See Jesus

What a joy it is, Family, to keep watch for our Returning Bridegroom, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Before Jesus' death and resurrection, He told his followers that He was going to go to His Father's House to prepare a place for them.

In Jesus' day and culture, it was customary for a young man to marry his bride and bring her to live in his father's household.  This was a word picture Jesus' listeners would have understood.

In essence, Jesus was saying 'I love you as a bridegroom loves his bride-to-be.  I am committed to you.  I am going for a little while to my Father's house to make a home for you. I will return. Keep watch for me.'

When a person believes in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit is given to them as a seal, a symbol of the promise and a guarantee that Jesus is returning for them.

Beloved, the Lord Jesus loves you!  He is right now in Heaven preparing a place for you!  He is thinking of you, planning for you, remembering you!  His thoughts about you are too many to count and every thought is for your good.

He has given you something better than an engagement ring. When you believed in the Lord Jesus Christ He sent you the Holy Spirit. If you were a lamp, the Holy Spirit would be your oil! (Matthew 25:1-13)

The Holy Spirit testifies to you that your Bridegroom cometh!

Keep watch for His return. We do not know the day or the hour of his rapturous return.  Yet we have this very certain hope:

"And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other."
Matthew 24:31

What a Day that will be!

Know Jesus

This week, you can dive deeper into the message through one or all of the following:

Discovery Bible Study

TO BEGIN

Pray and ask Holy Spirit to teach you about God from His word.

Next, read the verse a couple of times.

Now, ask these questions:

  1. What does this tell me about God/Jesus?

  2. What does this tell me about people?

  3. How can I respond to what I just read?

When you’re done asking these questions, it’s a great idea to pray and thank God for teaching you more about who He is and who you are!

Discovery Bible Study (DBS) is a way for anyone, anywhere to read God's word! You can dive deeper into this week's message by doing a DBS one any one or all of these scriptures. DBS is a great tool to use for your own devotions, as a bible study with friends, or as an evangelism tool!

"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour."
Matthew 25:13

Prayer Prompts

  • Pray that Holy Spirit will help us know God's love for us.

  • Pray that we would be led by the Holy Spirit in love, unity, and humility.

  • Pray the Lord will show us where we can encourage others.
