See Jesus As Your Righteousness: Diving Deeper

See Jesus

Beloved, the Lord wants you to know that righteousness is not about doing the right things.  Nor is unrighteousness about doing the wrong things.

If you gave 100 bucks to a person in need today that might mean you are kind but it does not make you righteous.  If you lost 100 bucks at the slot machine today it might mean you are foolish but it does not make you unrighteous.

The Bible teaches us that when the first man, Adam, disobeyed and sinned all of his offspring, all of humanity, became unrighteous.

"For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, "
Romans 5:19a

Even before we could do right things or wrong things we were unrighteous.  We inherited Adam's unrighteous sin nature.  It wasnt about what we did. It was about who we were.  All people are born unrighteous by nature.

"There is no one righteous," the Bible says.  Of all the children of Adam there is no one born with a pure righteous heart.

Unrighteous people can do good things.  Unrighteous people can do righteous things.  But unrighteous people cannot become righteous by doing right things.

The last part of Romans 5:19 speaks about Jesus' obedience:

"so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous."

Through Adam's disobedience all of humanity became unrighteous.  Through Jesus' obedience to the Father, even to death on a cross, many will be made righteous.

When we believe in Jesus Christ and confess Him as Lord, we become the righteousness of God!

Righteousness isn't about right "doing".  It is about right believing!  Believe on the Lord Jesus and be saved from unrighteousness and be delivered to righteousness.

Righteous people can do bad things.  Righteous people can do unrighteous things.  But righteous people cannot become unrighteous through doing wrong things.

Beloved, see Jesus as your righteousness.  See how Jesus has made you righteous through His obedience.  See how every blessing of the righteous is now available to you because of the Lord's kindness.  Hear Jesus mediating His righteousness on your behalf in heavenly realms.

As you do, your actions will follow your believing.  Your life will become like a tree planted by the river.  Your roots will grow deep into Christ's righteous life and you will produce fruits of righteousness in season!

Discovery Bible Study

TO BEGIN

Pray and ask Holy Spirit to teach you about God from His word.

Next, read the verse a couple of times.

Now, ask these questions:

  1. What does this tell me about God/Jesus?

  2. What does this tell me about people?

  3. How can I respond to what I just read?

When you’re done asking these questions, it’s a great idea to pray and thank God for teaching you more about who He is and who you are!

Discovery Bible Study (DBS) is a way for anyone, anywhere to read God's word! You can dive deeper into this week's message by doing a DBS one any one or all of these scriptures. DBS is a great tool to use for your own devotions, as a bible study with friends, or as an evangelism tool!

2 Corinthians 5:21
"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."

Prayer Prompts

Heavenly Father, I believe that because the first man disobeyed you many were made unrighteous, including me.

I admit that I am a sinner.

I believe that Jesus obeyed you and became my sin at the cross.
I believe He paid the penalty of sin in full and rose again from the dead.
I believe I can be saved and receive Jesus' righteousness as my own by believing in Jesus.

Heavenly Father, I believe.
I accept the gift of salvation you offer me.
Jesus, come into my heart and be my Saviour.
Thank you for washing my sins away by the power of your Blood.
Thank you for making the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus.
I give you my life and I confess that you will be my Lord.

In Jesus' Name.  Amen.
