God Wants You Well : Diving Deeper

See Jesus

See Jesus.

See Jesus standing up in the synagogue to read.  (You can see this with me in Luke 4).

Jesus had been baptized in water.  Jesus came up out of the water and heaven opened up. The Holy Spirit came down from heaven. The Spirit landed on him.  The Spirit remained on Him.

Then Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert.  Jesus was to be tested by the devil.

The Holy Spirit knew that Jesus was fully God.
The Holy Spirit knew that Jesus was fully man.
The Holy Spirit knew that Jesus would pass his testing by the devil!

Jesus succeeded.

Jesus of Nazareth was who he claimed to be.
He was the Righteous One.
He had no sin nature.
He did not sin.

Jesus returns from the testing.  He is full of the power of the Holy Spirit. He travels to towns in the region of Galilee to teach at their synagogues.

He goes to his hometown, Nazareth. Jesus stands up in the synagogue of Nazareth to read.  A scroll is handed to him. It is the scroll of Isaiah.

See Jesus.

He is confident.  Purposeful.  He takes the scroll and turns to a prophecy that had been about him and he reads,

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

Luke 4:18-19

Then Jesus rolled the scroll up.  He handed it back.  Jesus sat down.

Everyone in the room looked at Jesus.  Listen to what He said.

"Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."

Wow!

The people knew. They knew what Jesus meant.  Jesus had just said that He was God!!

Are you curious? Please read the rest of the story in your Bible.

We know that Jesus was/is God.  Jesus is the exact representation of God.

Do you want to see what God's character is like? See Jesus' character.

Do you want to know what God wills?  See what Jesus willed.

Do you want to know if God has authority to heal?  See what Jesus' authority.

Let's finish with a sunset scene...

"At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them."
 Luke 4:40

Beloved, God wants you well!!

God's character is Healer.  God's will is to heal.  God has healed our disease through the atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I know that not everyone experiences healing.
This can cause pain and confusion.
In this pain and confusion, we must see Jesus.

I hope you will join us this coming up Sunday as we consider theLaws of Faith.

Next Sunday I will ask questions from the message, God Wants You Well.
There will be prizes.
It will be fun.
If you want to prepare, you can listen to the latest message here.

Be encouraged, my dear friends.  See Jesus.

Know Jesus

This week, you can dive deeper into the message through one or all of the following:

From Luke 4:

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the character of Jesus.

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the will of Jesus.

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the authority of Jesus.

  • Pause.

  • Take time to meditate on the thoughts that come to mind after asking.  Write them down if you find that helpful.

Discovery Bible Study

TO BEGIN

Pray and ask Holy Spirit to teach you about God from His word.

Next, read the verse a couple of times.

Now, ask these questions:

  1. What does this tell me about God/Jesus?

  2. What does this tell me about people?

  3. How can I respond to what I just read?

When you’re done asking these questions, it’s a great idea to pray and thank God for teaching you more about who He is and who you are!

Discovery Bible Study (DBS) is a way for anyone, anywhere to read God's word! You can dive deeper into this week's message by doing a DBS one any one or all of these scriptures. DBS is a great tool to use for your own devotions, as a bible study with friends, or as an evangelism tool!

"At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them."

Luke 4:40

Prayer Prompts

  • Pray that we will have revelation of God's character, His will to heal and the provision of Christ for our healing.

  • Pray that we will hate sickness.

  • Pray that we will press in to see healings.
