Keep Yourself in the Love of God: Diving Deeper

See Jesus

You have placed your trust and hope in Jesus as Lord and Saviour! You have experienced the heart melting, mind-blowing, destiny altering love of God. It created awe and wonder, a hope and future brighter than the sun!
How do you continue to experience the Love of God day in and day out, day and night, day after day...?!
How do you keep from growing cold and indifferent to God like you once were?
Can this feeling of REVIVAL continue? How long?
GREAT QUESTIONS...!!! I am so glad you asked!
Let's turn to the Truth, the Word!
The Book of Jude tells us this ...

"But you, beloved, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life." Jude 20-21

What does it mean to keep ourselves in God's love?
It certainly does not mean that we can live in such a way that we make ourselves more lovable so that God can love us.
That is a totally unnecessary "work". We already know from Romans (5:6) that God loves even the ungodly. My good works don't make God love me. And God doesn't love me because I am good.
The amazing truth that God loves me is a reflection of God's goodness not my goodness! it is a testimony to His goodness not mine.
Nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus... but we can deny ourselves the benefit of God's love and often do. Not keeping myself in God's love is like having a nice warm home in the winter but sleeping in the snowbank outside... I have the comfort, security, and warmth of a home but lose the benefit of it by sleeping in the cold!
It is my responsibility to be building myself up in faith, no one else can do that for me. Commit to building up, commit to growth, others can help but they cannot do it for you. Commit to receiving God's love, learning about God's love, experiencing God's love, sharing God's love!
Praying in the Holy Spirit - This keeps us firmly in the love of God! The Spirit may give you words to pray as you ask, The Spirit may also lead you to speak through groanings which cannot be uttered, or the gift of tongues. Either way, you are praying being directed by the will and desire of God as opposed to your own needs and desires. This keeps us in the love of God.
Jesus made the way for us to experience and receive (and keep ourselves in) the love of God by his sacrifice on the cross. Jesus made the way... for us to be called Beloved. (But you, beloved... )
This word, this title "beloved" literally means "worthy of love"
We are now beloved, worthy of love, worthy of God's love... Jesus did that.
Jesus also made a way for us to keep ourselves in God's love.
What a Saviour, what a Lord!
Thank you Jesus!

Know Jesus

This week, you can dive deeper into the message through one or all of the following:

  • Place your life before God as an offering.

  • Ask Him for deeper understanding of what that means for you today.

  • Do a DBS on Romans 12:1-2 & Jude verses 20-22

  • Listen to and worship along with "The One You Love" by Maverick City/Kirk Franklin/Brandon Lake

Discovery Bible Study

TO BEGIN

Pray and ask Holy Spirit to teach you about God from His word.

Next, read the verse a couple of times.

Now, ask these questions:

  1. What does this tell me about God/Jesus?

  2. What does this tell me about people?

  3. How can I respond to what I just read?

When you’re done asking these questions, it’s a great idea to pray and thank God for teaching you more about who He is and who you are!

Discovery Bible Study (DBS) is a way for anyone, anywhere to read God's word! You can dive deeper into this week's message by doing a DBS one any one or all of these scriptures. DBS is a great tool to use for your own devotions, as a bible study with friends, or as an evangelism tool!

Jude 20-22
But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,
keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
Be merciful to those who doubt;

Prayer Prompts

  • Pray for a revelation of the love of God for you! Let that revelation transform you!

  • Pray that the love of God for you would be reflected to all you meet!

  • Pray for the influx of souls into the Kingdom! Pray that the love of God would shine through the family as we are on mission through hospitality.
