Won't You Be Their Neighbour?!

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.

Matthew 22:37-39

According to Jesus, as his words were captured and recorded by Matthew, the most important thing in any person’s life, the ultimate purpose, is to know God’s unconditional, infinite love; and respond to it.

The second purpose, of similar importance, is to understand that God created you to be in relationship with other people.

Relationships have the potential to be incredibly rewarding bringing great joy and contentment in life and people.

They also have the potential to be confusingly complicated resulting in pain and sorrow creating a negative or even bitter outlook on life and people.

Solomon in all his wisdom gifted from God says this about people…

This is all that I have learned: God made us plain and simple, but we have made ourselves very complicated.

Ecclesiastes 7:29

There is the possibility of conflict, misunderstanding, resentment, frustration, feuding, separation, etc developing from relationships done poorly. Even so, God tells us relationships are good, we should be in them, and we should not only treat others with respect and dignity, we should LOVE them the same way we love ourselves.

This may sound cliche to some, but I believe that every person can experience incredible peace in their lives. In fact I believe strongly that there is an answer to every problem in the world right now. Not only that, but that there is an answer for every problem that humanity has ever known or will ever know.

That solution is a 3 step process:

1) To know and understand that God loves you with an unending, unconditional love.

2) To respond to God's love by receiving His love.

3) Love your neighbour as you love yourself.

This process is an incredibly simple process, not necessarily easy, but incredibly simple. It may require changing your mind about things you thought you were sure of, and it will require you to say no to the areas that you may be selfish.

Simple, not necessarily easily.

These 2 scriptures help in making the process simple AND easy!

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:9-10

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:37-39

Take time today to let the idea of the Love of God sink in!

Take time today to love someone else the way you would like to be loved!

Blessings!
